Curation

From 2020 to 2023, Nuri served as the Program Curator for the bi-monthly  Scent & Society lecture series at the Institute of Art and Olfaction. Scent & Society endeavoured to start a dialogue on the diversity of scent cultures and teach about the rich history of our olfactive past outside of the Eurocentric and commercial lenses.  During Nuri’s four-year stay at the IAO she:

  • Developed the Scent & Society core curriculum and yearly supplemental curricula, ensuring the students grasped the fundamental concepts of scent culture studies and sensory anthropology with additional philosophical and regional studies perspectives provided by herself and guest lecturers.
  • Created 21 bespoke class modules
  • Conducted 46 lectures with reading lists, optional assignments and dedicated resource pages
  • Coordinated and hosted 26 guest specialists with unique knowledge in an array of regional scent culture topics
  • Advised 19 students on their optional long-term Scent Culture 202 projects
  • Conducted one-on-one office hour sessions with 122 students
  • Conducted student surveys as well as quarterly and yearly reviews to ensure the programming was impactful and relevant to our students.
